I'm Gitti, and am originally from Germany, but currently reside in Sacramento, California. I never thought I'd end up working with or falling in love with clay, but from the first time I worked with it back in 2012, I was hooked.
It started when I wanted a white shiny log for my fireplace- I couldn't find anything on the market and was envisioning a shiny log with tealights on the top so that it could be lit and look like a pretty glowing fire. This first item I ever made ended up being carried by Anthropologie for its winter collection in 2016!
Completely self-taught, my work is always evolving and there are more ideas in my head than I have time to create. I've learned by exploration and a lot of trial and error, but through this process have learned and grown and just like life, my pieces reflect the small imperfections , which, ultimately give the piece its unique character.
Over the last 8 years since I launched my little Etsy shop, some of my biggest inspiration has come from my incredible customers and their stories- much of the work I now make is customized for the individual, with designs often coming from my customers themselves.
My mission is to bring pieces that are meaningful, inspiring, lovely, earth friendly and timeless, as well as sometimes whimsical or quirky, into this world. And to hopefully brighten someone else's day with a handmade creation that was made specifically for them.
What started as a little side hobby has now grown into a full-time career, and has filled my heart with so much joy. In 2019 I took a leap and opened up my own Scandinavian-inspired studio, which serves as my studio currently, but as we move past COVID, I'll be having Second Saturday open studio events and it will be a gathering place for hands-on workshops, where others who may or may not have ever worked with clay can come play and explore their own creativity.
